Little Miss Sunshine (2006) (Blu Ray) - 10/10

I watch so many movies that are forgotten the day after but there has always been something about Little Miss Sunshine that I find absolutely hilarious and genius at the same time which really makes it stand out as one of my favorites. Watchin the new Blu Ray this afternoon with the commentary by the director and screenwriters just reinforced my love for this quirky family road trip movie that creates such 3-dimensional characters that I feel like I've just gone on this adventure with them. The way that we're introduced to each character's motives and interests is so subtle that by the time we throw them all in the yellow van to get the girl to the beauty pageant, I just laugh at how they find a common goal to work together in a movie that explores these real life situations. With an uplifting soundtrack that one minute makes you laugh and the next deals with life and death, the movie is'nt preachy with character backstory at all but lets you see their struggles being worked through together, almost like a therapy session. Listening to the commentary was cool to hear the real life stories the writers put into the script like the horn getting stuck or actually making the actors go on a roadtrip to get better chemistry. The 3 act structure they say helped strengthen our connection to the characters over a slow buildup of time to the point where even when stealing the dead body of grandpa, they make you believed what they were doing was the right thing. From the little details of the ice cream scene, pushing of the van, to the strip dance at the end, everything in this movie works far more than I ever thought it would even after repeated viewings. This movie is refreshingly fun and something I know i'll revisit often.
