Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D (2009) (IMAX) - 9/10

All I can say is Wow. I freakin love animated movies and 3D, but this movie has to be the best integration of both I've seen yet. Taking an entirely different approach than the Pixar films do in terms of realism, MvA was a direct parody of the old 50's monster movies that were all dialogue and then like 5 minutes of huge city battles. This movie was over-the-top in all the perfect ways, from staging an epic bridge sequence to flying chase sequences, I was hooked right from the start. I could tell the movie was created in 3D from the beginning as every detail and background has much more depth and focus that it should, giving it a more rounded and real look. All the secondary characters are voiced brilliantly by such an entourage of hollywood stars that it was impossible not to get caught up in this world where not only do monsters exists, but are called upon to stop the destruction of earth by aliens. The little pop culture references like the president playing the Beverly Hills Cop theme instead of the Close Encounters one really worked to bring a balance of humor on top of the huge action scenes that all are unique, especially the end battle on the ship. I laughed constantly at Seth Rogen's B.O.B character throughout the movie and even though a few jokes fell flat, this movie was well above my expectations and had a little more heart than just your typical kids movie. Using state of the art computer animation, a pounding score and incredible 3D, MvA had it all. Highly recommended.
